![]() A motorcycle is typically a two-wheeled vehicle run by a small, loud engine. These vehicles are basically motorized bicycles, but are structured with heavier, sturdier and more complex parts, implying that a motorcycle is more machine than bicycle. Motorcycles have various uses, but the obvious primary use is to ride, to serve as a form quick transportation. Other uses: military and law enforcement, sports/racing, touring, and serving as a symbol of freedom, depending on who is riding it. Motorcycle conventions also allude to yet another purpose for the motorcycle: a show piece! Motorcycles, like automobiles, are also works of art for those who are mechanically inclined or like to showcase their unique and innovative machines (concept bikes). Motorcycles: Types ![]() Road Motorcycles: motorcycles built for riding on paved and public roads. These motorcycles have shallow treads and 125cc engines capable of reaching 100 mph (160km/h). Some can go over 125 mph (200 km/h). These aren't designed for racing, but merely for public transportation. They have license plates, blinkers, and other accessories necessary for riding on public roads. ![]() Cruiser—reminiscent of the style of American machines during the 1930s through the 1960s. These motorcycles are designed for long distance riding and provide some comfort. Harley Davidson, Excelsior, Henderson, and the Chopper are cruisers. ![]() Sports bike—performance bikes that are usually lighter and smaller in structure than the cruiser. These motorcycles are racing bikes and have four-cylinder engines ranging 600cc to 750cc. "Super bikes" can also provide up to 1,000cc. ![]() Touring bike—these motorcycles offer large displacement parts, to protect from inclement weather and heavy winds; high-torque engines; comfortable, upright seating positions; and large capacity fuel tanks for long-range mileage. Types of tour bikes include: Full-dress Tourers, Standard Tourers, Global On+off Road Tourers, and Sports Tourers. ![]() Naked bike—reduced in parts to its essentials, this bike emphasized function, performance, and ergonomics over the appearance that is a preferred feature of the sports and tour bikes. These motorcycles are also referred to as "street" bikes. The Yamaha Seca II is a fine example. ![]() Scooter—Motor Scooters are short-distance motorcycles with small wheels (357 mm or 14 in. in diameter) and engines in the swing arm. Typically, these run less than 125cc, but some larger scooters exceed 250cc. One popular scooter is the Honda Lead 80. Moped—a bicycle/motorcycle hybrid with a two-stroke engine that goes up to 50cc. These have demanding licensing in some localities. Their popularity dropped in mid-1980s, but they are still used today. ![]() Off-road bikes—these include dirt bikes and are built for rougher terrain. They have larger, deeper-treaded tires, small engine, long suspension travel and high ground clearance, and no street accessories. These motorcycles have engines that comprise two-strokes at a single cylinder or four-strokes at a single cylinder, and can go as low as 50cc or as high as 750cc, depending on age of the riders and the size and style of the engine. Trial bikes, which go no more than 250cc, are off-road motorcycles. These are used for Motocross and Enduros. ![]() "Dual-Sport" and Adventure-Touring—these are "on-off road" bikes. They are similar as the "off-road" motorcycles, but they are equipped to ride on public roadways as well. Farm bike—a variant of the trial bike, this motorcycle was used by dairy farmers in New Zealand during the early 1960s. These are low-pressure motorcycles used for easy transportation. Derny bike—a specialized motorcycle used in track cycling for blocking air-resistance for racing bicycles. Towing bike—designed by a Swedish company, this motorcycle has a high-torque engine and retractable trailer for towing cars and light trucks. The only one in existence is the Retriever, an altered form of the Honda GL 1800 old Wing. Concept bike—these are prototypes created to measure the response to innovative designs, new and unique technologies, cost effectiveness, and other factors. Most are never realized, but a small few are released in compromised combination form, taking into consideration marketing realities, public reaction and preference, and manufacturing capabilities. Motorcycles are the rage of the road—and off the road. These machines are as inspirational as they are dangerous, and they require as much respect as they do training and practice to operate. If treated well, motorcycles will treat riders well. Article source: Articlecat.com Author: Find more Motorcycle resources and other great topics at www.info-checkpoint.info. |

tips on washing your motorbike
This is my thirty-five years old Honda Wave 125, which my sister bought via installment at a local motor shop in our place for my 21st birthday. If you think it looks as if new; well, modesty aside, it really does.. Thanks to my OCD-like behavior in keeping it neat and clean day-in, day-out..lol.... I think I have the credence to provide you tips on how to really wash your motorbike. We all know that different kinds of washing is needed in different applications, like washing a car is different from washing your motorbike. For one, motorbikes have so many little spots where you need to look into than that of a car.
Give your bike a good soaking with the hose avoiding the transmission box, exhaust, and air filter. Use a cleaning mitt on the plastic and painted areas, and brush for the metal areas. For the rubber tires, use a rubber cleaner and a detailing sponge. Your chains must be cleaned also but with oil and grease cleaner. You will need to lube it right after it dries.
Use micro fiber towel for drying the body of your bike. Then, try to drive around the block to eliminate the water that might have gotten into the exhaust.
This should be done at least once a week or each time the need arise, especially when you are driving on wet or under heavy rains. Doing so will keep unwanted elements from accumulating on your vehicle.

Aftermath
Thanks God, I finally persuaded my mechanic friend to fix my brother’s motorcycle! He’s just taken it to his shop and hopefully, in two-week time, it’s done. For now, my brother will have to walk, commute, or borrow my Honda125. He will really miss his ‘Raider’. He once though of selling it but I guess it has so much sentimental value so he kept it even at my mother’s protest—something to do with superstitious belief—Anyway, it’s going to be a huge expenditure but I think he has huge savings. Besides he’s going to collect his and his motorcycle’s insurance, so that will settle all obligations. I’m just worried that something might happen to his brain, his attitude’s a bit change and I can see that. He’s too silent all these time. He won’t talk or at least tell a story… maybe talk about how he feels and what’s going on in his mind. Maybe he’s too afraid to say something, because the bottom line is: it’s his fault.
Not that I’m trying to blame him, but that is a fact. He knows it, I know. Anyway, everything is past now and there’s no point digging bones. We have bigger problems to settle now, like we are being the talk of the town. I think we are being blamed for the death of my cousin. Unfair, isn’t it? That was an accident; nobody will look forward on having accident. But that’s life I guess. We might as just endure the current situation.

post script

By the way, I actually had the heart to refrain posting the bloody pictures of my brother's accident. It will not be suitable and such action, I think, is for everyone's best interest. I wanted to spare my brother's privacy and I don't want to mess up his life after everything that had happened to him. Besides, you wouldn't want to see bloody pictures, stitched faces, broken bones, cracked skulls, and wrecked motor bikes in this right? I just figured that it will be the best thing to do.
By the way, I'm happy to see my brother is getting back in shape now. This means, i can now get on with my life and this is going to be the first step. I have finally chosen to blog about maintenances and safety on the road. I never would want to see another dirty and filthy mess to happen again. I bet you wouldn't want to, so help me out in making this blog useful. Let's try to reach out everyone in this community and keep them updated and aware of the safety measures on the road.
But for now, I just want to rest and make up for the lost sleeps I went through in the hospital. Not that the accommodation was bad, it's just that I am not able to sleep well. My cousin dying and all that, no one I think would ever do. So I'll grab a nap now and will be back before you know it! :D

Helmets, not hell met
My uncle and his son-in-law appeared on our doorsteps at around 3 am. That was rather unusual, but I was expecting something better like maybe one of my uncles (my mother's brothers) probably arrived from Manila. This happens every now and then but not usual.Anyway, i did not expect that it will be something worst. I was also unaware that my elder brother isn't home yet. My sister and mother were already up to hear the bad news--My brother, met an accident with his son! My woke my brother-in-law who happens to live in the same compound and rushed to the hospital.
It was a bloody mess! My brother was already in the Emergency Room covered with his own blood. When we moved him, there was something trickling from the back of his head so we have to call the attention of the intern nurses and the doctor on-duty. What government hospitals can do, wheewww...I peered into the log and found that his wallet, wrist watch, and cellphone were not listed. After checking with the doctor, I rushed to the accident scene.
The accident scene is also a bloody mess. My brother's Suzuki Raider was already moved to the local police station with the batteries and other important parts missing. The U-box was opened too! There was a police report but the personal belongings of my brother were not found and not on the list. I can feel my head aching, a sign I know too well. I'm getting irritated!
Base on experience, I'm not going to win in any debate over a uniformed officer so I just went back to the hospital. My brother's companion were already moved from the Emergency Room. I gathered that he was fatal because of the impact of the accident. I don't know what to do at that time, my brother was still unconscious and all that. I resumed the duty of pumping my cousin's heart through a device that you just need to hold. I did that for hours.
I wanted to weep, but I can't. I'm too shocked and afraid of what will happen. Looking at my brother inside the ER and my cousin lying, trembling unconsciously; I thanked God my mom did not came to see such inconvenient situation. I resist the thought that this had happened and that one or both would die. But it's plain to see with the current situation of my cousin. I just kept my mouth shut and prayed endlessly.
My cousin was a tough man, he died after two days of battle. He struggled but was not given another chance. It's a miracle my brother was alive! His skull was a bit cracked, but that's about it. We moved him in a private ward where he stayed for another two weeks. To this day, he is still recovering. His motorcycle was repaired too and he's now starting to enjoy life in a more careful way. I can see his not yet ready to hit the road but he's trying. I can see he's still trembling when driving and too cautious but he'll do fine.

Oh Man!
My brother got himself into trouble!! Just got back from the hospital and I need to go back soon. No one is available here than me, so I think I don't need my mom reminding me. Besides, this is a family matter so I don't need to be told of my duties and responsibilities. So sad to say, at this early in my blogging career (whooaaa), I need to bid farewell for a limited period of time. just need more time in helping out my family in this big mess.
I think I'm not going to be available for the next days. Hope this ends soon and everything will be just fine. I'm still too worried about my cousin, not that my brother is of less importance but at least he is getting better. My cousin is not, I'm afraid to say. i hope he'll get better soon but I know better. Well, just join me in praying that all these ends soon and everybody may live happily ever after.
This is long for a busy person, wouldn't you say? Maybe I'm just releasing my inner thoughts and my worries about this matter. i am actually afraid to go back to the hospital. Not that I'm afraid of the institution, I'm worried of what's going to happen next. That's talking in full honesty. I'm afraid of what the doctors will say the next time. I'm simply and sincerely afraid! But I need to be strong, right?

the interceptor
Hello everyone! I'm so glad to be part of this site and my new found hobby--blogging! I just came up with that title I put on my site because I have nothing else in mind. Besides, I actually love motorcycles so that settles it. I still do not know what to focus on but for the moment I will be writing about motorcycles and its maintenance. Probably, regulations in driving motorcycles too and get ups.By the way, I own Honda Wave 125 but my sister's cam is not working so I simply snatch this interceptor from the web so I will have something to add in my debut post. Anyway, I really wish to have one such as this but it seems too expensive for me and my lifestyle. But who knows? The world is round and it continues to roll, just like life. I might own one of this and you will be the first to know...:D
Well, this is long enough I think. I got to get rolling. So many things need to be done today. My motorcycle first, of course. I got to tune it up and oh, since i still do not know, i have to find 'Mang carding' to do the job for me. And gee, before I forget, I also need to clean my big brother's motorcycle--he left it and opted to commute to Sorsogon, his point of work. So, got to go now...hope you find time to pass every now and then here, and make friends with me..change links too!
